Who’s Really Making Money Around Here? Part 2

Who else is really making money around here, besides the Video Stars I talked about in the last post.

It’s the product creators.

They aren’t all Network Marketers, but the Network Marketers have started getting in on the game.

That’s not really anything new, when I first started out, my sponsor had his own courses, the other top guys in that company and most other companies also sold tapes, books, courses, etc. They were doing this long before the Internet. Most of the time though, Network Marketers create products for their own company or downline, to make some extra money and to get leads that they can turn into downline members.

The difference is why that do it and how they do it, not that they do it at all. Plus, in the past, you had to actually be a top Network Marketer, one of the top earners in your company and well known for it before you could even consider selling your own products.

Now a days, anyone can do it and no one really knows if they’ve ever built a downline or not, no one really knows if they are making any money or not, but that’s one of the problems with this business online anyway, same goes for affiliate marketers selling products, you don’t know if they have ever made any money doing anything but selling their courses.

I’ve always had an issue with some guy saying he’s making $100,000 a month and he’s going to show me how he does it for $37 bucks. I’m calling bullshit on that every time.

Now, you do have guys like Eben Pagan (Brilliant), Jeff Johnson (Gives away more free info than most people sell) & Frank Kern (the coolest dude online), selling products at much higher price points, this makes more sense to me, if Eben is selling something for $2000 bucks, it’s a fair deal, you will get value and he gets a nice amount for his product.

The Network Marketers, not to be left out, have come out with their own products in the same way, they sell them the same way, they have affiliate programs attached to them, they do the contests, they do the videos, sales pages, etc. It’s not just some top guy in a company selling books and tapes to the rest of the members in that company, they don’t care who buys, they aren’t trying to sign up everyone they sell to into their company, although this happens by default anyway, they are selling a product, making money doing that and that’s really that.

Historically, Network Marketers have been very guarded with their training, information, who they spend their time with, who they will even talk to and their lists. They would never send out an eMail promoting another Network Marketer or another Network Marketers product, same difference really, they would never do free training for anyone that wanted to watch the video, if you wanted their training, any time with them at all, you had to sign up in their organization.

That way of thinking is long gone, the affiliate marketers have shown that sharing their lists is a good thing, everyone is on everyone’s list anyway, the Internet has turned everyone into a customer, no matter if they identify as Internet Marketers, Network Marketers or Affiliate Marketers, they are all just customers to the guys selling the products. The Network Marketers jump from company to company so fast now a days that they really are just customers aren’t they? They don’t stay long enough to be attached to that company or considered anyone’s downline member.

I remember the drama we used to have because some guy left one company to go to another, or one persons downline to go to another persons downline, in the same company. It was a big deal. Not anymore, now everyone just jumps around, whose got the best system, whose giving away the most perks, whose paying my way in, there they go, no one cares.

The affiliate marketers have also shown that it’s better to sell your products through an affiliate program, like I said, this would not have worked in the Network Marketing arena 10 years ago, not even 5 years ago. The only people that would be affiliates for a network marketers products were people in their downline and the main reason they were affiliates was not to make money, it was to get leads that they could sign up into their business.

A great example is; Jonathan Budd is now a top Network Marketer, he’s also a top Affiliate Marketer. He became well known as an Affiliate Marketer by winning Mike Dillards contest for one of his products. As far as I know, these guys are not in the same Network Marketing company, yet, they promote each others products/services. Many people actually promote their products, it has nothing to do with downline culture anymore, it’s about making money.

This would not have been done a few years ago. The mind set has changed.

Just to point out, Joe Schroeder is the first Network Marketer I know of that sold products using an affiliate program. Like I said though, back then, only his people were selling his products and everyone that purchased a product was then pitched into the network marketing company. This is the original version of the funded proposal.

Guys like Jonathan Budd and Mike Dillard are making boat loads of cash and it has nothing to do with their network marketing check. They create products that teach you how to build your network marketing check, but what you really should be thinking is, how are these guys really making most of their money.

Network Marketing or product creation.

Those two guys have obviously made fortunes in Network Marketing and still do, but I will say that they are the exception. Others have made money in Network Marketing, they realize how unstable it is, how hard it is to keep going and they use the name recognition they got when they were on top of the industry to sell their products, look at the retired guys that have well known names but no downlines anymore, they are retired after all, still doing training, consulting, creating and selling products, live shows, etc. Why is anyone buying anything from them, they retired, they aren’t up to date, they can teach mind set and intangibles but they really can’t teach marketing, the way we market online changes so fast, anyone who has been out of the business for 6 months is way behind and out of the loop.

So, whose really making money around here? The Network Marketers that have merged Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing into one. Even if they don’t have their own products, many of them will promote the products created by others, in order to create more income, the Internet has changed are mind set on income in general, we don’t care where it comes from, who writes the check is irrelevant, money is money and there are so many different ways to make it online that the downline we may build in a network marketing company is just a small part of the overall business model.

Just look at this blog, some of the ads on this blog have nothing to do with business at all, but if someone decides to buy P90X after clicking the banner up top, I get a check. Do I care that the check didn’t come from a network marketing company or that it didn’t come from an affiliate product geared towards Internet Marketing? Not even a little. My bank doesn’t care either.

I have another blog about Marriage, I have another one about Fantasy Football, I have a social network that has nothing at all to do with Internet Marketing, Home Businesses, etc. it’s a completely separate revenue stream, they all are.

I should mention that the people really making the money around here also are the company owners, membership site owners, system owners, autoresponder owners, all of the people selling us the tools we need or think we need to succeed.

I have always owned my own programs, since 2000 I’ve been creating stuff, most very small compared to the big network marketing companies, but I’ve made more money from them then I did being a distributor for any particular company. Actually, if you combine the money I’ve earned owning my own membership sites, I call them membership sites because they vary greatly so membership sites is just easier, combine that income and compare it to the income I’ve made being in all of the other companies I’ve been involved with, mind you, it’s a bunch of them, the income isn’t even close.

Just a quick example:

Wowzza made me a small fortune (Six Figures) in a few months.
MyCapturePage was pulling in 25K a month for a year, that’s an average for that year.
Just8Bucks did 9K a month for about 18 months.
Pro-List, the second paid list builder online, a little pat on the back for that one, had 6,000 members sign up at $25 bucks a pop, over a few years.

There were others, my passion is creating, that’s just what I do.

It’s unfortunate that they didn’t last and none turned into the next Giblink or Xango, but I blame the flaky Internet mind set, makes me feel better.

You can’t touch that income with your network marketing check and you know it, neither can I so don’t worry about it.

The simple conclusion to this very long post is this:

Don’t do what the people making money say to do. Do what they do.

That’s the solution. I could have just put that at the top and saved you some time right. I know.

Do what they do:

Create your own social network, membership site, marketing system, training product.

Start out small with an ebook.

Start out small with a free social network.

Get yourself name branded.

Do something impressive that gives you credibility.

Create, Sell, Sign Up.

Build a downline, sell a product, sell a system.

It’s easy now a days since you can hire programmers, designers, buy software, even pay someone else to write for you.

Do something extraordinary.

Create many streams of income.

Get rich, retire, get richer telling everyone how you got rich.

That’s it for now, thank you for stopping by.

Who’s Really Making Money Around Here?

This post goes under the catagory of “things a network marketer should never say”.

I’ve never cared much about that, so here I go again.

When I got involved in this business, they didn’t tell me that I would have to become an Internet Video Star.

Basically, an actor.

I don’t want to be an actor, I don’t want to be a video star.

I really don’t.

However, in 2010, you have to make videos to:

Get high rankings in the search engines.
Get name branded.
Compete with the other guys.
Get attention/interest in you and your company.

It’s the dumb down effect of the Internet.

The Internet has always moved in the direction of make it easier, make it faster, make is as simple as possible, especially when it comes to getting people to hand over their money.

So, now, we don’t even want to read anymore.

First, it was written content, web pages and blogs.
Then it was audio.
Then it was video, but just images and music.
Now it’s video of You.

I blame the Affiliate Marketers, since they are normally first when it comes to new sales tactics and the Network Marketers follow along.

My problem here is not only that I don’t want to be a video star, I also don’t feel that my ability to make a video, my ability to act in that video, my ability to look good on that video, should have anything to do with getting sales or sign ups in whatever I may be promoting.

My compensation plan, product/service and Network Marketing company should not be judged in that way.

My ability to provide training and leadership, my experience and knowledge, have nothing to do with my acting skills.

It’s annoying at the very least.

So, right now, the people really making money around here are those that are most comfortable creating and starring in videos.

They are all over YouTube, which puts them all over Google. Big surprise there since Google owns YouTube.

They get the most interest and attention since people don’t want to read anymore, they want to watch, just like they do on their TVs, we are now creating Network Marketing infomercials for their viewing pleasure.

We are now the show. Whoever puts on the best show gets the most sign ups.

Network Marketers have many job descriptions, it’s a long list and I’ve done it all. Now we have to add entertainer to that list.

I’m going to go back in time with some old school training that I learned. One of the main problems with the Video Marketing tactic is that it’s not duplicatable. Most people can’t or simply won’t do it. Now, we as individual Network Marketers are not duplicatable anyway, however, what we do to get sign ups should be, in most cases, something that our organization can also do.

If you can’t sell on the phone, you can do a 3-way.
If you can’t write, you can use your sponsor or uplines letters, blog posts, sales pages.
If you don’t have all the answers, you can always ask someone.
If you can’t build a web site or capture page, there are plenty of services that will do that for you.

If you can’t make a video, you are just beat, there is no substitute. If you use your sponsors video, your prospects will sign up with them. The company videos or team videos, etc. are not as effective as the personal videos. The personal videos name brand you, they give the impression that you are a leader, although I have no idea why. They make people want to sign up with you, just like in the old days when people wanted to sign up with the person doing the conference call or the person speaking at the live events, now they join with the person on the videos.

Another problem I have with this is the fact that this skill has nothing to do with anything. It doesn’t make the person a wonderful sponsor or an expert Network Marketer. It doesn’t make the company they are promoting any better or worse, won’t make that compensation plan better than it is and doesn’t change the product one bit, it’s simply a bad reason to make a business decision.

So, am I just complaining or do I have a solution.

Honestly, I’m just complaining.

The only solution is to make videos. Until a new trend comes along, which will probably be that we all have to have live web cams in our homes 24 hours a day so that people can just watch us whenever they want, to make sure we are actually living the lifestyle of their dreams.

So, grab yourself a flip video camera and get started. Practice. Take some acting lessons. Upload to YouTube and you are on your way to Internet Video Stardom, which will bring you large downlines and fat paychecks, I think anyway, since I’ve never made a video, I can’t say for sure.

One last thing, I see a lot of videos where the star of the video is driving. What’s that about? That doesn’t seem safe to me, I really think they should at least stop doing that, I don’t want to be driving down the street and get hit by some marketer doing a video about the latest nutritional juice product that I’m sure will not save my broken body when I’m in the emergency room. I hope they really are making boat loads of money from all those videos since I’m going to sue their asses big time.

Stay tuned, I have more coming from the “Whose Really Making Money Around here?” catagory.

Have Fun,

What’s Going On With Autoresponder Companies?

Everyone has an autoresponder, we all need them to run our businesses.

There have always been those overpriced mailing services, corporations and other companies that just don’t know any better use them, they charge per mailing, per contact, etc. it comes down to them drastically overcharging for a simple service.

Marketers have always used companies like, Aweber and GetResponse, there have been many others over the past 10 years but most went away because it just got too difficult to deliver the mail with all of the spam issues.

Spam issues however, do not make it more expensive to run the business, they just make it more difficult to provide a good service, since no one wants an autoresponder service that can’t get the eMail through.

I’ve used various companies in my 10 years and even had my own autoresponder on my own server for a while, Autoresponse Plus is autoresponder software that you install on your own server, you pay for it once and that’s it, no monthly bill. I stopped using it after a while because of the idiots that would opt in and then cry spam, when the autoresponder is on your server, this causes problems for all of your eMail marketing, your domain names and your IP addresses, so I decided to go with one of the established companies.

I of course would not use one of the overpriced companies, since my list was over 50,000 and that would have cost me thousands a month.

I went with Aweber, which was $20 a month, unlimited contacts, unlimited amount of eMails sent. It’s the ideal for this type of service. One price, unlimited use.

After a few years, I went offline for a while and opened an offline business, when I came back online, I decided to try GetResponse instead of Aweber. I liked Aweber better, but it’s really just an ease of use thing, either service does what you need it to do just fine.

Now for the problem. Both companies were the standard in the industry for marketers, mainly because of the low price and unlimited use. No one is going to convince me that these two companies were not making money, they are the only options for anyone that knows enough to not get overcharged by the other companies and doesn’t want to install their own autoresponder on their own server.

They have both raised their prices.

They didn’t raise their base price, so you wouldn’t even notice and I’m not really sure if they have grandfathered in existing customers, but as it stands right now, they are both charging according to the size of your list.

Their base price is only for people with lists of 500 or less, so if you have a list that size already or plan on building your list to more than 500, which you should plan on of course since 500 isn’t much at all, then you will have to pay more.

If your list is 25,000, you would pay $150 a month for example. That’s rediculous.

They both still look great at first glance, $18 a month for GetResponse and $19 a month for Aweber, but again, that’s for a list of 500 subscribers or less.

I don’t know what caused this and I think it’s interesting that they both did it around the same time, but I’m not the type to care why, I can’t do anything about it anyway, so my goal was to find a solution to this problem.

In my seach, I found a few other companies, no where near as many as I would have found 5 years ago.

IContact; a bit cheaper for smaller lists but then the same for lists of 2500 or more.

Stream Send; this one seems to be targeting other types of businesses, not marketers and charges per eMail instead of per contact, which is even worse since if you have only 1000 contacts but send 20 times a month, that counts as 20,000 eMails and the cost would be $60 a month. Also, how are you supposed to know how many times a month you are going to send an eMail to your list.

The rest are either software that you install on your own service or complete garbage.

Keep in mind, this is just a simple search that I didn’t spend all that much time on, but I get a lot of eMail and I see what they are using and it’s all the same companies.

Except the one I decided to use.

TrafficWave.net

TrafficWave is $17.95 a month and is still unlimited. Unlimited messages, unlimited contacts, unlimited autoresponders.

You can even import 1000 leads at a time, no limit. The leads do get a verification message, but this is way better than the other companies which either don’t allow imports or have import limits and charge you according to how many you want to import.

Now, I won’t say TrafficWave is a better service, it’s the same service and does not have as many bells and whistles as the larger companies, but it has what you need and is easy to use. It also doesn’t look as good, the web site isn’t as nice and professional and neither is the members area, but again, it is an autoresponder and does that job very well at a much lower cost.

Another benefit; TrafficWave allows you to create capture pages on thier server, so you don’t even need a hosting account or web page. Even if you do have hosting and web pages, you can run a marketing campaign for something completely different and not have to set up more web pages for it, just use one of their capture pages, they have almost 40 capture page templates that you can edit and use to generate subscribers.

Another really big benefit; TrafficWave has a compensation plan. Not an affiliate program like the other companies, which have a 20% – 30% affiliate plan that pays you commissions for anyone you recommend. This is an actual pay plan.

http://www.trafficwave.net/members/jimvigilante/affiliate.html

The TrafficWave compensation plan features;

100% commission on your sign ups first month. That’s $17.95 anytime you refer someone, paid weekly. Refer one person a month and yours is free.

Monthly commissions paid through a 3×10 forced matrix. Get 3 and it’s free for you.

Up to 50% matching check bonus on those you referred.

This is certainly not a primary business, but it is way more than most autoresponder companies give you and if you just got it for free wouldn’t that be nice?

TrafficWave is a full featured autoresponder service for only $17.95 a month, still unlimited, with hosted capture pages and a compensation plan that could earn you a decent monthly and even weekly check.

I’m not giving in to the big name autoresponder companies, I’ve found my solution, what are you going to do?
